Mothers in Management.

Workshops held for the mothers in April have resulted in a ‘shake-up’ and new vitality. Sylvia Rasimeni has been appointed to the position of product developer and trainer, with particular focus on new mothers. We really want to encourage these mothers and serve those who can benefit most from the project. Monelwa Canda is the new floor manager who supervises the orders going out each week to the mothers and the quality checking of the work coming in. Both of these mothers have been with the project since its inception in 2002 and it is great to have them in these positions of responsibility. The three other project members who are assistants are Mrs Kibido (the mother of the project – she trained the first members in 2002), Nomakhaya Balile and Nomlungiseselo Ncethelo . A new committee was also elected.

False Bay Hospital Beadz

We had a request from Jane Dunn, a volunteer, and Dr Kalawe , who runs the ARV clinic, for help in initiating a beadwork project for their patients. Jane reports as follows "The Kidzpositive Family Fund helped us to launch a Positive Beadwork Project at False Bay Hospital last Friday 9th October, with our first ten unemployed HIV+ Mums. It was an awesome day, difficult to put into words. We will meet every Friday for skills training and then later, to bring in completed products and receive payment. Now it is just up to me to find a steady flow of ORDERS so that the False Bay project will become sustainable in the long term."

You can place your beadwork orders for this project through this Positive beadwork website : www.kidzpositive.org/beads
Please mark you order FOR FBH.

Positive Beadwork Brochure

It was a wonderful morning that the photographer Cornel de Kock (www.corfoto.com) spent at the project and the beautiful photos that he took capture the essence of the project and really pay tribute to the mothers. We are most grateful to him for his contribution. We hope that the brochure will increase interest in the project, encourage people to visit the website and that it will ultimately result in more orders for beadwork. Some of the photos can be seen in our photo essay. Click here to see the photos.
