Advanced Counsellor Training

HIV/AIDS patients face tremendous challenges in their daily lives, with their physical and mental health at risk, and additional social challenges it becomes difficult for them to adhere to their treatment regimens as strictly as needed.

Our public service clinics would not be as successful as they are, if it were not for our counsellors. They play a central role in the clinic treatment team by building indispensable relationships with patients. Invaluable skills such as translation, emotional support, mentorship to mothers, care-givers and young adults allowing them to break many cultural barriers on behalf of the medical staff.

As an organisation we have found that unfortunately many counsellors in our country have not had access to the extensive and complex training needed for such a challenging task. In order to assist our counsellors – and counsellors from other organisations – The Kidzpositive Family Fund has introduced an ‘Advanced Counsellor Training’ (ACT) course.

The ACT course provides practical training in Health Literacy and Counselling Techniques, allowing for a higher standard in lay counselling and general support services.
